BSA TROOP 993

Camp Duty Roster

How can I contribute to the needs of my patrol?

The following is a list of the daily responsibilities assigned to members of a patrol.  With all of these responsibilities, remember you are all a team and when one person needs help, you are expected to offer it.....A Scout is Helpful.

Job Descriptions

Fire

The person assigned to this duty must start the fire at least 30 minutes before the meal. Those times are: 6:45 am, 11:30 am and 4:15 pm. Before starting the fire, check and see if you have enough fire-starters and matches. Be sure there is enough for the next meal, too.

Wood

This duty involves the gathering of the wood, the cutting of the wood and the protection of the wood pile with a large garbage bag or tarp at all times. The wood pile must be at least as high as the bottom of the stove at all times. It is also your job to see that the water jugs are full and placed in the patrol site to be used as needed.

Grub Master

This scout or scouter is responsible for buying and bringing the food for the campout. Remember you are also responsible for the staples; peanut butter & jelly, oil, syrup, cocoa, mustard, ketchup and salad dressing or mayonnaise.

Assistant Grub Master

This camper is to assist the grub master.

Cook

This person is responsible for cooking the meal(s). Be sure to read the menu and the directions for preparation. If you have any questions about anything ask your PL. Remember that you are cooking over a propane burning stove, which is all metal, or an open fire, and can become very hot. Use your oven mitts, hot pot tongs and the other utensils as needed. Please try not to use too many pots and pans as this only adds to the cleanup

Assistant Cook

This camper is to assist the cook. This duty also involves the setting of the table. It should start at the same time the fire is begun If not see your PL. If you are having salad with a particular meal, it is your job to prepare it. You should also set up the plates the cook will need for the prepared food. You will also provide him with smoke shifters.

KP

It is your job to wash the dishes. You will fill the wash basins with hot water; as hot as you can take it. You will then take them to the designated cleaning site, not the patrol site. You will then use the scrubbing materials provided by the troop to clean the dishes. Before you begin please scrape off as much food as possible so you won't have to clean so much. You will then return these washed items to the patrol site to air dry. Finally, you will dump the dirty water in the bushes and clean out the wash basins which you will then return, clean and dry. Remember if you do not do this job properly you and everyone else in your patrol can become very sick.

Assistant KP

This job involves cleaning up the table. After the table is cleaned off you will wash the table down with hot water and a sponge. Then you will dry off the table cloth with paper towels.  Put away all utensils and staples. Be sure that the items are placed carefully in the food box. In addition, be sure you clean all tops of any bottles used, such as ketchup bottles, before you put them away. You will then police the ground for any dropped items. Be sure to do this very carefully because discarded food will bring unwanted bugs. Next you will tie up the garbage bag and take it to the dump site. This is done after each meal. Next put out a clean garbage bag. Finally, check the staples containers. If they are empty give them to the person on KP to be cleaned. After that dry them out and place them in the food box to be filled at the next pickup.
