How to Join a Troop 993 Mail List

Send an e-mail to the List master with Subscribe to "List Name" in the subject line.

What is a Mail List?

A mail list is a program that is on a computer and people subscribe to the list via e-mail. Once you have subscribed, then you will start to receive messages from other people that have sent e-mail to the mail list address.

Basically, the mail list program keeps a list of e-mail addresses that have subscribed to the list. Then when an e-mail is sent to the mail list address, then that message is then sent back out to all the people that are on the subscription list.

The list is like a big message board that allows people to post messages that other people may want to read about. This mail list is for the Scouts, Scouters, and families of Troop 993.  People that have subscribed then receive messages from the mail list computer as regular e-mail.

This is what you need to do to join our mail list:

First you need to subscribe (it's FREE!) Follow the instructions above.

You will then receive an e-mail from the computer that the mailing list is on letting you know that you have been subscribed to the Troop 993 mail list. Once you are subscribed, you can then post messages to the list OR you can just "hang out" and read the e-mails that you receive from the list. People that are on the list will send in questions, thoughts, etc. and you as a subscriber should feel free to reply to the e-mail and post your comments to that message. At any time you are also able to send an e-mail to the list and post your own questions, thoughts, comments, etc.

It is just like replying or e-mailing a friend/co-worker. Instead of sending your mail to one person, your e-mail is being sent (via the computer that the list is on) to everyone that is on the Troop mail list. If you get an e-mail from the list that you would like to contribute to that topic, then just click on the Reply button on your e-mail program, now you may type your reply/comment. This will then show up on the mail list as a reply to the other person's e-mail subject.

(To protect the privacy of our troop members from spammers, all personal email addresses are addressed as "username at whateverdomain.com" and are not linked. To address an email to these individuals, the email will have be re-addressed as "username@whateverdomain.com." We apologize for any inconvenience.)
